They point the biggest golf events in Europe, but what is the legacy? Why do they disappear from relevance after being centre of the golf globe soon?
All these are questions worth thinking about in the week that Le Golf National plays host to the Open for the first time since the continents beating victory over the USA .
1 thing is for sure, that functioning of the oldest national Open in Europe will not be as grand as the Opens that preceded the 2018 Ryder Cup.
The tournament was shifted by a prime place in the schedule at the end of June and is currently worth just #1.4m compared using all the #5.6m purse that was played last year.
Make no mistake, there will be significant golf on display. The scramble qualify to Dubai finale for the Race and to maintain trades is intensifying.
Along with also the likes of Martin Kaymer, Jose Maria Olazabal, Thomas Bjorn and Jamie Donaldson include some stardust.
But when Alex Noren won 15 months ago he beat a field that included defending Spanish giants Jon Rahm champion Tommy Fleetwood and Sergio Garcia, US celebrity Justin Thomas along with Ryder Cup stalwart Ian Poulter.
Bjorn contributes as one of the primary playing attractions as opposed to chief strategist for an European victory.
That 171/2-101/2 triumph created lifelong scenes and memories to inspire future generations. The course – set to match the home team – and also the prime location near Paris and parts played in creating for golf.
But it feels like Le Golf National could follow a lot of venues that staged house matches into obscurity for Europe. Courses which were once staples around the circuit have faded out of importance.
The Belfry hosted the Ryder Cup and whatever you consider the program, which does have its founders, that the first layout in the English midlands became a part of the fabric of golfing history.
But a Tour event has not been staged by the Brabazon Course because the 2008 Specialists. Celtic Manor in Wales disappeared following the Ryder Cup, four years from the schedule in 2014.
The K Club, which hosted the 2006 game in County Kildare, had been the European Open between 1995 and 2007s constant house. It then vanished from the calendar other when it held the Open.
Gleneagles staged this years Solheim Cup and the 2018 European Team Championships before placing about the 2014 Ryder Cup however its deal to hold tour events died the year.
Just Valderrama (1997 Ryder Cup) in southern Spain has turned into a regular stop for the continents top players in the wake of holding one of the biennial jousts between Europe and the US.
Therefore the portents arent great at a time when the worth of this French Open has slightly diminished, particularly for Le Golf National.
The French Federation signed a deal that could have obtained them to 2022 with the championship being guaranteed to be well worth a minimum of 3m euros.
This arose together with the loss of host Alstom, but for 2016 a lucrative deal was gained by the European Union with conglomerate HNA. The five-year agreement values 25m euros appeared to fasten the top-level standing of the event.
But this deal fell through departing this tournament able to warrant a place in the elite Rolex Series of the tour. So now it sits in this October date detached from the limelight it commanded.
The change of date is okay, the largest tournaments ought to have the best dates, Pascal Grizot, president of Frances 2018 Ryder Cup committee, confessed to LEquipe this past year.
The European Union did not do more to support the championship, but the official questioned. Why didnt they opt to help the French Open and the federation as we had been exceptionally loyal to the Ryder Cup? He asked.
The simple response comes down to money, such as with so many former Ryder Cup venues. There is cash generated to put these areas after the goal of Maintaining the largest event of golf has been fulfilled, but it disappears.
It may prove a similar story for Le Golf National. In accordance with the program of the following year that the French Open will move back to high summer, however there isnt any word on which path will stage the tournament nor its purses size.
Places immediately resonate with golf lovers K Club, The Belfry, Celtic Manor, Gleneagles and now potentially Le Golf National are not places that have carved large areas in the matchs folklore.
They also provide proof that company reality leaves room for preserving and nurturing that golfing history.
